Ideas For 50th Wedding Anniversary
Party Time
Planning a party might not be difficult, but planning a party for a 50th wedding anniversary, might not be everyone’s cup of tea. You need to put in a lot of thought for this one, and while the basic steps of the planning procedure might be the same, as for any party, the way you go about those steps will be slightly different. You need to make sure that you include themes and ideas that epitomise either the number fifty or fifty years of togetherness.
The first and foremost thing that you need to consider, while planning a party, is whether you want to keep it casual or jazz it up with a formal theme. Plan your invitations, food and décor in accordance with the same. Make sure you invite only as many people, as you know you can handle. It might be a good idea to invite just fifty people or guests, who are above fifty.
The location for a party is always most important and it is no different, when you are talking about a 50th wedding anniversary. Choose a venue that is special to the couple that is celebrating the anniversary – take them back to where they got married or where they had their first date. You could also choose a place that they have always wanted to go to.
Once you have finalised the venue, spend a little time thinking about the decorations and how you are going to deck up the party place for the special couple. Ivory is one of the colors that is associated with 50th wedding anniversaries, and you might want to get tablecloths that are the same. Get a hold of ivory coloured centrepieces and candle stands and scatter a few ivory shaded pearls.
Another great idea for decoration would be to have cut-outs and photographs of the happy couple. Ask friends and family to bring in pictures that they might have and add those to the décor. You can install a few small televisions, all around the venue, and play videos, particular home videos, of the couple, which shows them on holidays, special occasions, or just regular days. Play music that the couple loves and make sure that you make them dance on the song, that has always been considered their special song.
Food will always take centre stage at any party, but at a 50th wedding anniversary party, it would be best if you plan a menu based on the likes and dislikes of the couple, whose special day is being celebrated. You could think on the lines of replicating the menu that was served at the wedding or reception. Perhaps you could even arrange for the same cake that was served at the wedding.

Gift Them a Gift
What a special day, without a gift? The whole idea of having an anniversary or birthday is that people remember you, think of you, wish you, and then bring you a nice gift. And when you are celebrating a day as special as the 50th wedding anniversary, you need to have special gifts as well!
While you could always get the typical gifts like key rings, jewellery or cutlery, you might want to think a little because these gifts might just add to the misery of the old people. Let’s face it; if the couple is celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, chances are that they are not very young. At this stage of life, they don’t want to have too many things, crowding their house, nor will they want very expensive, because their memory might no longer be their best friend!
So, give them gifts that they can use up immediately, and these could include vouchers to the supermarket, dinner coupons at a great restaurant, a trip to the nearby winery or even cooking lessons. However, a photo of the entire family or a poem written by a son or daughter, or even the handprints of the all the grandkids, framed in a golden coloured frame, will always be considered special.
With A Heart Full of Love
A gift need not cost a fortune, because it is always the value of the gift and the emotions that are associated with the gift that matter the most. For someone who is celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, it will be the affection and love that comes with a small gift that will matter more than the most expensive gift in the world. So think on the lines of things that will bring back to them, the best of memories or give them new moments to cherish and relish.
While most couples would love to receive a frame with a picture of their entire family, they would be absolutely delighted if you can get their wedding photo restored and put in a pretty frame. Gift them personalised items that they will love to use – think on the lines of monogrammed bathrobes, slippers, pillow cases, cushions, coffee mugs or even champagne flutes.
You could also create a CD that has music that the couple is really fond of, or songs that take everyone back to the era, when they got married. Create a video collage of the some of the best times that the couple has shared. Give them a box of chocolates that you have made at home, and make sure that they have flavours and fillings, that the couple is fond of.
Call favours with your family and friends and ask them to find the most memorable photos or anecdotes associated with the couple. Put all of these together in a scrapbook and print a picture of the couple, that you can put on the cover of the same. If you can, plan a surprise picnic and gather just the closest family and friends.
Take them all to a place that the couple is really fond of – this could be their favourite park or resort. Once there, make sure that you have made arrangements for the couple to renew their wedding vows, complete with a bridal bouquet for the ‘bride’! If any such event is what you are planning, invest in several disposable cameras, and offer them to all the guests. Let them click away and assemble all these pictures into a photo-book.
Living fifty years in itself is something, but living fifty years with someone you love and treasure is something totally different. Not a lot of people get to do it in their lifetime, and if they do, then this is something that should be celebrated!
