Unique Homemade Costumes For Teens
If you’ve got a costume party coming up or you want to be well prepared for Halloween when it comes around, and you don’t want to shell out a lot of money for a store bought or rented costume, you can make your very own unique costume. The unique homemade costumes for teens described below are fairly simple and easy to make, so you don’t need to worry about your skills as an artist, a tailor or seamstress.
Ideas On Homemade Costumes For Teens
Cute Homemade Box Costumes For Teens
Costumes made from cardboard boxes are particularly eye-catching not only because of their size and shape but because they are rather cute to look at. Here’s how you can make your very own unique homemade costume using simple things like a large cardboard box, a t-shirt and a pair of old tights or a bodysuit, and a bit of paint. To begin with get hold of a box that’s large enough for you to fit inside comfortably and that covers your entire torso.
Now you can either cut out large holes for your neck and legs in the upper and bottom flaps respectively, or to be a little more comfy you can remove the flaps altogether. Use clear tape to secure the flaps and then cut holes for your arms on either side of the box. Alternatively, you could remove the bottom flaps of the box, leaving the upper intact and cut out large eye holes and arm holes.
Once you’ve got your basic box costume ready, you can use different colors of acrylic paint to turn it into any kind of box costume you want like a washing machine, television set, boom box, domino, or a Rubik’s cube costume. If you are not very good at drawing free-hand, all you need to do is use a ruler and paper plates to draw the shapes you require. Slip on your body suit and your box and you’re done. For a television set or boom box costume, you can also wear a hair band with two pipe cleaners attached to it to simulate antennae.
DIY Fantasy Costumes For Teens

There are a whole lot of unique homemade costumes for teens you can make based on the fantasy theme. The first part of The Hobbit movie is due for release at the end of this year, so it would be really cool to dress up as a cute hobbit. A simple homemade hobbit costume doesn’t take a lot of effort to make. All you need is a brown velvet jacket (formal type), a silk or satin shirt in white, a green satin vest, and a pair of brown or dark green velvet Capri pants to transform yourself into an authentic hobbit.
You can either make these clothes yourself or rifle in the attic and in thrift stores to find good substitutes. To give yourself hairy feet (no hobbit is without them!) you can paste bits of wool, fibers, synthetic hair or real hair on skin colored socks. Try out your molding skills by making a pair of Play-Doh leaf shaped ears to complete your costume.
You can also make a simple witch or wizard costume using black material to make a robe, cardstock and black velvet paper to make a pointy hat and a pair of black boots. You need not necessarily make a robe unless you really want to, instead you can be a modern and hip witch by wearing a fitting black tee and a pair of black jeans.
Make the pointy hat by shaping a piece of cardstock into a cone shape, covering this with black velvet paper, and then pasting the cone on a rim that has also been covered in black velvet paper to make it look more realistic. Don your black outfit, the hat, and fish out an old broom from the garden shed and you’re good to go.
