Outfit Ideas For Mother Of The Bride
A mother whose daughter is ready to walk down the aisle is perhaps the busiest person on this planet. It is her job to help the bride pick her wedding trousseau, prepare the guest list, send out the invites and ensure that everything is perfect for her little girl’s big day.
In all this hustle and bustle the mother often forgets that she too needs to look her best on the wedding day. The last thing any mother wants to do is upstage her daughter on the latter’s wedding day. But this doesn’t mean that you have to dress down. The styling of the mother is going to be very different from her daughter because of the generation gap they share.
The mother of the bride should be dressed in a formal, yet elegant, manner. However, take care that the dress is in accordance with the theme of the wedding, if the wedding is theme-based. You should also look at other considerations like the time and the place where the wedding is taking place.
Choose The Right Color And Fabric For Your Dress:
Along with the design of your dress, you must also choose the fabric wisely. You don’t want to sweat it out for a morning ceremony or freeze for an evening reception. The color of your dress should be decided after much consideration. Go for a color that best suits your skin tone.
However, this isn’t the time to experiment. Stick to colors that you have already worn and know will look good on you. Don’t fall for the shopkeeper’s trick of trades and end up buying a shade that doesn’t complement your skin tone, the color of your hair and your age. The color should suit your personality as well.
Don’t go for bling or garish colors. They might look good on you but are highly inappropriate for a wedding and that too when you are the mother of the bride. Stick to pastels and deep colors. Rose, wine, coffee, navy blue are some of the dark colors that you could try.
Wearing black for a wedding is not recommended. For light shades you could look at lilac, pink, cream, yellow and violet. Don’t even think of looking at white especially if it’s the color your daughter is going to wear. You don’t want to steal her thunder from her and definitely not on her wedding day.
Choose The Right Style For The Dress:
A very popular dress style for the mother of the bride is a two piece suit. The suit consists of a jacket and a skirt or pants. The suit should be of neat cuts that either accentuate your figure or hide your flaws. A pencil cut skirt or a pair of cigarette pants will look really well for a semi-formal event like a wedding.
A gown will look good for an evening/night wedding. But the gown should be suitable for your age and body type. Get the dress stitched in your size to avoid any glitches later on. Accessorize the dress appropriately by selecting the right jewelry. Don’t go too heavy on the jewelry. You can also add a hat and gloves to give a touch of elegance and sophistication to your outfit.
