By on July 12, 2012

While it is true that celebrating your child’s first birthday can be both an exhilarating and a very momentous occasion for you, it is also true that your child is too young to even understand what a birthday party means.

So it is completely alright if you do not want to throw a huge birthday bash and instead spend a quiet and happy moment with your very close family o even go off for a holiday – just the parents and the child. However, if you do opt for a party, here are some ideas to get you going.

First Birthday Party Ideas For Girls

Invitation Cards

Take out prints of your baby girl in some of the cutest poses and form a collage of pictures. Turn this into a birthday invitation card. Buy toy blocks (either plastic or wooden) and stick your birthday invite on it.

You could also give a small baby book to each with the party invitation written on the first page of the book and signed off with the baby’s name. Shape and fold your card in the form of a baby’s diaper and write inside it! Once you have written inside the card, you can even stick a small safety pin to hold the card in place.

Cut out the number 1 from a piece of cardboard. Either color it or stick colored paper on it. Write your invite on it. You could even stick your kid’s picture on the number if you wish too. Instead of writing a normal invite, try making a rhyming poem while writing out your invites. Buy tiny clothes that your kids used to wear during just after birth and stitch your invite onto it.

Decoration

For each of the food that you place on the table add a small card beside it saying why you think your kid should eat it when she grows up. Also let the decoration be such that it looks really girly and colorful. Lots of streamers making stripes on the walls, balloons hanging like huge polka dots from the ceiling would look very appropriate for the occasion. After all your tiny one is yet too young to have a proper themed party!

Decoration ideas

Decorate the exterior with lots of painted flower pots and stick into the mud painted paper flowers of a myriad colors.  You could even have a lot of colorful pinwheels simply stuck onto the mud near the entrance door. They rotate as the wind blows and look very cute and sweet.

The entrance door could have either “Happy Birthday” or even the name of your child written with streamers or ribbons.  Also when each of the guests arrive hand them a bag of whistles, balloons etc. which they can blow once inside together with a party hat which each of them would wear and make the occasion brighter.

For the toddlers and slightly bigger kids who might be present, you could have a huge basketful of soft toys, rag dolls, Barbies etc. in one corner of the room for them to play with. You could even display the various milestones your little one achieved in the past one year through a chart filled with drawings and pictures. For example; the first tooth, the first hair cut etc.

However, if you must have a theme for the party then choose one from her favorite bed time story book and decorate the place according to it. Have a guest book for all the guests to sign and write on before they leave the party. You could even have a “blessing tree” at one corner of the room for each guest to write out a blessing for the little one and pin on it.

Cake and food

The birthday kid or even any of her friends won’t be eating any of the food! So what food you plan is more for the adults. But do keep in mind the basic theme of the first birthday and prepare food accordingly. Some examples are -

Cake 1st birthday

No matter what cake you make, make an exact cupcake sized replica for your baby. Keep clicking as you watch your daughter digging into it and enjoying thoroughly. This will also help you to take care of how much sugar you want your child to have and also the various allergic food ingredients that you might want to leave out.
