How To Plan For Baby Shower
Parenthood is one of the most beautiful feelings in the world and is definitely the most exciting journeys, one can embark on. From the moment you find out that you are about to become parents, or someone you hold very close to your heart is about to welcome a new member into their family, you start making plans and picking up little gifts.
However, the one idea that takes up residence in most minds is that of a baby shower – this is one party you start planning from the minute the good news is confirmed. And you wouldn’t be wrong in doing that, because a baby shower does require a lot of planning. If you are wondering where to start, there are plenty of places, but it would help if you do the same in an orderly manner.
Tips for Planning a Baby Shower
The Actual Planning Process
When you sit down to work on the planning process for the baby shower, you might want to keep a lot of time on your hands – both in terms of the actual party and the planning process. Fortunately, you know when the baby is due, and can choose a date in accordance. It would be a good idea to keep the party in the latter part of the second trimester of the pregnancy, that is, in the fifth or sixth months.
Once you have zeroed in on a date, think of two things first – budget and location, because both are extremely co-dependent. When you know how much you are willing to spend, you can decide what kind of place you want to hold the party at.
If you have a lot of money on your hands, you can rent a party hall, but if there are financial constraints, you could do the same at home or in the backyard of a friend or family member.
The number of people you can invite depends on the space that you have – big space can accommodate more people, which means that you can have a bigger guest list. Prepare the guest list and make sure that you send the invites well in advance. By adding an RSVP aspect to the invites, you can make sure how many people will actually be coming to the party.
Now, you can think about the other aspects and these include décor, menu, cake, all the entertainment, which includes the games and most importantly, party favours. Each of these needs individual attention and quite a bit of meticulous planning, which is why it is ideal that you start organizing the baby shower at least a month in advance.
Choosing The Theme
This is perhaps the first stepping stone for a successful party, because if you have the right theme, you can be pretty sure that the rest of the planning will fall into place on its own. When you have a good enough theme in your hands, you can choose the décor, foods and even entertainment, in accordance.
One of the most obvious themes would be revealing the gender of the baby (if you already know the same or wish to share the good news with the world). If you are having a baby boy, have everything in the shade of blue or pink, if it’s a little princess that is coming into your life. You could choose themes based on nursery rhymes, alphabets or numbers.
How about planning the schedule of the baby in advance? You know that the baby will have feeding times, bathing times, sleeping times and times where he is out and about. Allot guests a particular event in this schedule and let them bring gifts in accordance.
So, for those who have bath time, will bring soaps, shampoos, baby towels and so on. This will not only help the mother to be stock up her supplies, but also make the task of gift selection easier for the guests.
At a baby shower, it is quite obvious that everyone will think about the baby; but what about the parents-to-be, especially the mother? A great idea to enable the participation of the father to be would be a couple’s party, where men and women are invited, and the dad to be also gets to participate in all the action.
Or how about a party, just to pamper the mom to be? Bring a lot of food that can be stored in the freezer. This will turn out to be a blessing for the pregnant mom, because once the little one is out, all she will have to get a meal ready is dig into her deep freezer!
The All Important Menu
What is a party without food? And what is a baby shower without tasty tid-bits and that all important cake? This is one aspect of the party that will probably take up most of your time, during planning as well as execution.
While you could choose to cook and bake and get everything ready on your own, it might not be a bad idea to give the task to a caterer. Or, if you are planning to invite just the closest of your family and friends to this gig, you could consider organizing a pot luck style lunch.
For a baby shower, the best idea is to go in for either a snacks only party or buffet style one, because with so many people, you really don’t want to get stuck with a sit down lunch or dinner. If you are hosting the party in your backyard or open park, you could consider a barbecue. For those who are planning on serving just snacks, you could have sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza slices and even cut up spring rolls.
The most important part of the menu would be the cake and this is something that is totally essential. Make sure that the cake is in keeping with the theme you have chosen, and if you have no theme, you could go for a simple white or chocolate cake.
In case the couple is revealing the gender of the child, the color of the cake can be in accordance. These days, cupcakes are also a rage, and offer you plenty of choice, for showing off your creativity. And if you don’t want to serve something typical, how about fruit or chocolate tarts?
When you are having a party, you need to have some sort of entertainment, or else, there is a strong chance that some of the guests might get bored. While having some nice music playing in the background would be nice, at a baby shower, most people will expect some sweet little games. If you are looking for any such games, you will not have a hard time finding any, because there is plethora of games that are ideal for baby showers.
How about changing pin the tail on the donkey to pin the baby inside the mommy? Draw and cut out a cute little baby and blindfolded guests have to pin it in the womb of the mommy. Or you could have a name game, which could be either related to babies in the animal world or in the world of entertainment.
For the first game, guests have to name the young ones of animals and in the latter, the young ones of famous celebs. You would be surprised by how many people have no idea of how to change diapers or nappies on a baby, which is why it makes for a great game, which is sure to evoke much laughter.
Similarly, not many will be able to distinguish between baby powder and baby formula, just by looking at it. So, why not put ten or more white powders into bags, and let the guests guess! These white powders could include baby formula, talcum powder, powdered sugar, and even baking soda.
Saying Thank You
Once your party is a grand success, you need to make sure that you say thank you, which is where party favours come in handy. And luckily, there is plenty you can do to make sure that your baby shower favour is the most unique.
How about stuffing baby booties or socks with candies and then tying them together with ribbons? You could do the same with feeding bottles, which will look great filled with candy, especially jellybeans.
You could also gift glycerine soaps in the color that corresponds to the gender of the baby. However, if you think that just a bar of soap is not enough, you could give away matching loofas or bath sponges.
For those of you, who wish to give a party favour that the guests will keep for a long time, how about cookie cutters in the shape of little babies, or bottles? You can tie a recipe card for simple cookies too.
A baby shower is an invitation to gather blessings for the unborn child, which is why you don’t want anyone to leave unhappy. Plan ahead, and plan well, and there will be no need for you to have any worries. How To Plan For Baby Shower, 5.0 out of 5 based on 1 rating
