If you have the time you can make a really beautiful 3D homemade valentine card with the help of pressed and dried flowers. You can purchase these pressed flowers, or you can prepare some well in advance by selecting your significant other’s favorite flower and inserting it in an old book. Just make sure it is book you don’t mind damaging since flowers have a tendency to stain books.

Place the book under your mattress or under a pile of books for a month or two. Using a card made of cardstock for your base, you can paste these pressed flowers on the front of your card towards the left border, write out a short message on the right, and draw or paste a few tiny hearts beneath the message.

Next, you can begin decorating the interior of the card using leaf printing. Simply take a leaf and paint it all over with an even coat of paint (very light colors only) and then press it down firmly on the card surface to create a leaf print. Write out a cute message or poem, sign it and you’re done!

Easy-to-make Homemade Valentine Card

If you are pressed for time but still want to make your very own valentine card for your loved one, you can make a simple but cute valentine card that says it all. For this craft project you will need some good quality cardstock, handmade paper or thick craft paper.

You can find different kinds of colored paper in the market and they are available in different weights, textures and colors. You will also need a pair of scissors, some colored pens and paint (optional). The first thing to do is make your card base by taking a sheet of cardstock or thick paper (A4 sized paper for a medium sized card), and folding it in half to make a card. After you’re done with that, draw out a couple of smallish hearts (around 1 inch) at the upper corners, and then cut out a small piece of colored paper (should be large enough for your loved one’s name) and paste it between the hearts.

Now you can write out the valentine recipient’s name, or cut out the letters from colored paper and paste it on the paper between the hearts. Using a pair of craft scissors (Zigzag), you can cut out a square piece of paper to cover the rest of the card (leave some space around the edges to form a sort of border).

Paste this beneath the hearts and name. Write out a short message like “Love you!” in big letters or cut the letters out and paste them on this piece of paper. If you’ve drawn and written, you can color those portions using poster paints.

To make your homemade valentine card look more glitzy you can add a touch of glitter using glitter powder or glitter pens. Highlight the name, message and cut-outs or drawings using a large black marker or silver paint to make everything pop. Once it’s dry, you can open the card and draw or paste cut-outs of heart shaped balloons, and write out some sweet quotes or a short poem in your best handwriting and sign it.

If you want to add an extra touch of romance and decoration to your card, take a bit of silver thread and thread on some clear glass beads and some dangling paper hearts, and then open the card and tie it around the center where the crease is.
