Here comes Thanksgiving and brings with it all those festive moments we share with family and friends. Thanksgiving obviously means good food including turkey and pies, football and home decoration.
If you are parents of growing children, then a fourth dimension – right understanding of the spirit of festivals and right kind of celebration also adds into your priority for the day. In the same spirit, we have brought you here 5 activities for kids, which though, are simple but will inculcate right kind of understanding and values in your kids.
Simple And Captivating Thanksgiving Activities For Kids
In the very morning, when your kids get up, you can sit with them and can tell them briefly about the history of the day and its significance in our lives. If you want to make this activity fun, you can make a skit about it which can be played through the puppets.
Involve children from your neighborhood and extended family and friends, if you are planning to do an elaborate puppet show on the same. Involve some grown up children in reading out the script and in making background noises.
Wish Writing On Table Cover
In the evening, when the family gathers for their meal, spread a big white or some light colored cloth on the table. Ask everyone to write three things they are grateful for, on the table cover along with the date.
Take out the same table cover each year and ask your children to add to their list of gratitudes. You will find your children being overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude, for things they tend to take for granted over a period of time.
Game Of Turkey Hunting
This one can be real fun but children will have to prepare for this activity well in advance. Make some colorful turkeys on small pieces of cardboard and hide them in your house at several places on the Thanksgiving day. In the evening, when the kids gather, ask them to go out for turkey hunt. The kid who collects maximum number of turkeys wins the game and is awarded a nice prize.
This one can be a very interesting idea if, people of the local area come together for a noble cause. Collect funds, donations, clothes and gifts from the neighborhood and organize a community kitchen for the needy.
Involve children in donation raising and cooking meals. You can also make some dishes and take them to a nearby elderly home or orphanage along with children and can spread joy and happiness on the holy day.
Game Of Football
Organize a game of football in your neighborhood. Make arrangements for the spectators to come and sit and have some snacks while watching the game. Pool in the money and have a wonderful time with your friends and family.
The idea is to celebrate the day with traditional grandeur and add some fun which educates and sensitizes children towards the niceties of life which they tend to take for granted.
