Christmas is the season of joy and giving. It is also a fun time for parents and children to work on some DIY projects together. Here are some easy and fun Christmas crafts ideas.
Mini Marshmallow Men
Create these perfect sweeteners to a wintery Christmas morning by sliding three mini marshmallows on to a toothpick. Dip these in melted white chocolate before decorating with melted chocolate chips or red candy wafers. Making these mini marshmallow men can be as much fun for the kids as eating them will prove to be.
Felt Wool Birds Ornaments
Bring in the festive mood at home by making these cheery little ornaments. Cut felt wool of two different colors in the shape of a bird. Sew together a piece of both colors using a thread matching the brighter felt color. Stick or sew on a looped satin ribbon at the back so that you can hang them.
Cover a styrofoam ball with scraps of colorful fabric dipped in glue. This will turn the ordinary ball into something very chic that you can definitely hang around the house. Do not forget to add a ribbon on top to make it look cuter as well as easier to hang. You can also make this bauble using some shiny glittery paper and give it the disco ball look.
You may have never thought about it but you can turn your toilet paper roll tubes into ornaments as well. Paint them in wacky metallic colors according to your liking. Then using a scissor, make fringe cuts in the tube so that you get a funky design. Bend the tubes till it forms a circle and tie it together to form a metallic wreath that you can decorate with.
Share the warmth of your loving gifts by adding cinnamon to it! Make cinnamon dough and cut out different shapes using cookie cutters. These simple wreaths can be hung at home or used to decorate the gifts you will be wrapping soon.
Pom Pom Bauble
If you have any pom pom balls on hand then this can be a great project. Cover a Styrofoam ball with different colored pom pom balls with the help of pushpins. Add a ribbon on top to hang the decoration. These colorful baubles can add a splash of color in the most drab rooms.
A fun idea would be to make flowers by looping paper together. This can be easily done by taking stacks of fluorescent paper cut into strips and stapling them together in the center. The edges can then be looped in the center to form petals of your flower. You can use these flowers as decorations for your gifts or hang them on the tree.
Ice Cream Ornaments
These cute ornaments will have your kids wanting the real thing too! Stick together felt balls in different colors (up to 3 scoops or balls). Wrap another beige colored felt over the lowermost ball and secure it with a few stitches. You can add a cute bow to enhance it further.
Using a template of owls, cut up felt paper in the shape. Sew together on all sides but one. Fill it with stuffing and then loosely sew on a patch to seal it. Decorate the owls a little more according to your whim and you are done!
Cranberry or Popcorn Garland
Nothing can be better than curling up against the fire with a popcorn garland to nibble at. Thread a needle through your much-neglected waxed floss and piece together the popcorn or cranberries through the string. The floss is much easier to string through than regular thread.
With these great ideas to engage the kids this Christmas, chances are that you will turn into the most popular person this season!
